The Roatan chocolate factory and rum tour are perfect for tourists in search of gastronomic and authentic local experiences. The chocolate factory is a small-scale chocolate company in Roatan, Honduras, their primary mission is to create the finest chocolate in Central America, and obviously the WORLD! 🙂 while also giving back to the local indigenous communities and protect the rainforest where our cacao comes from.Â
Where the Cacao Comes From?
The cacao comes from The Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve in La Mosquitia and also the western region of our country Honduras. In 2011, UNESCO entered the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve as a World Heritage Site and was once registered in the contest of becoming one of the new world wonders.
Chocolate Ingredients
They use only the finest quality organic Honduran Criollo and Trinitario cacao beans harvested in the rainforest and deep jungle of The Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve in La Mosquitia, north region of Honduras. These beans are very rare and make up around five percent of the world’s annual cacao harvest. The cacao tree is native to Central America and Honduras is known for extremely high quality cacao.
Our chocolates are all hand made in small batches, they have no artificial flavors, fillers, colors or preservatives. They contain no Soy Lecithin (used as an emulsifying agent) and no Palm oil, used to reduce cost by replacing cocoa butter. Everything in our factory is 100% pure and organic.
Our dark chocolate only contains two ingredients, Cacao and Cane Sugar and our milk chocolate only has three: cacao, cane sugar and milk. Because it has no extra oils and wax, and cocoa butter has a very high melting point, it doesn’t melt unless the temperature exceeds 98 degrees Fahrenheit.
Some other 100% natural ingredients we use are:
1. Passion Fruit
2. Sea Salt
3. Island Almonds
4. Island Cashews
5. Island Coconut
Socially & Environmentally Responsible
Every time a bar of chocolate is purchased, part of the proceeds go back to the rainforest area in The Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve in La Mosquitia, where instead of growing the local economy through illegal cattle ranching, which requires the clearing of trees, indigenous communities can harvest cacao, which doesn’t require to clear trees and this way, not only support their local economy but protect the rain.
